Ahlan wa Sahlan – Welcome to Arabic Studies at Trinity College!

At Trinity, the Arabic Studies program offers a unique and engaging environment to explore the rich sounds and script of the Arabic language, the beauty of Arabic literature and film, and the warmth and diversity of Arab cultures.

Our courses in Arabic language, literature, and culture are designed to be both interactive and personalized. Our intimate small classes and inclusive supportive learning environment help students build strong language skills while developing critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and cultural awareness. Studying Arabic at Trinity will not only enrich your academic experience, but will also open up a journey of exploring the world beyond the West.

Arabic is the official language of 26 countries across the Middle East and North Africa and is one of the most widely used official languages in the world. Arabic is also a working language of major international organizations such as the United Nations and the African Union. In the United States, Arabic is one of the fastest-growing languages and ranks among the top five most studied in higher education. Studying Arabic can open doors to opportunities in international affairs, business, education, journalism, and more.

At Trinity, Arabic language is taught intensively at the elementary level (Arabic 101-102) and continues at a non-intensive pace through intermediate and advanced levels (Arabic 201- 402). Students can pursue either a major or a minor in Arabic. Arabic courses also may count toward a minors and majors in Middle East Studies Concentration within INTS as well as African Studies and Global Studies.

Learning Arabic at Trinity goes beyond the classroom. Students participate in a range of cultural events and activities, including our weekly Arabic table, social gatherings with faculty, and the student-run Arabic Club. These experiences build community and help bring the language and culture to life. Students who pursue a minor or major in Arabic Studies are strongly encouraged to study in an Arabic-speaking country through any Trinity-approved program.
