Program Requirements

The minor in physics consists of four foundational courses in physics and mathematics and two upper-level physics electives.  The two-course elective requirement cannot be fulfilled with transfer, study away, or consortium credits.  No course with a grade less than C- may be counted toward the minor.  The requirements are:

Two foundational courses in physics:

  • PHYS 231L. Electricity and Magnetism

  • PHYS 232L. Optics and Modern Physics

Two foundational courses in mathematics:

  • MATH 132. Calculus II

  • Either  MATH 231.  Calculus III  OR  MATH 234.  Differential Equations

Two physics electives chosen from the following:

  • PHYS 300. Mathematical Methods of Physics

  • PHYS 301. Analytical Mechanics

  • PHYS 302. Electrodynamics

  • PHYS 304. Statistical and Thermal Physics

  • PHYS 313. Quantum Mechanics

  • PHYS 316. Experimental Laser Optics

  • PHYS 317. Relativity & Fundamental Particles

  • PHYS 320. Modern Physical Measurements

  • PHYS 330. Astronomy & Astrophysics
